Welcome to Virginia United Methodist Women!

United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members around the world whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice.

We have members in local units across the Virginia Conference.  These units are all sizes: from units in small, rural churches, to units  in large, urban churches with multiple "circles".  Our membership is intergenerational, from exciting new circles for elementary age girls, high school and college young women to circles that include long time members age 100+, and everything in between!  No matter the size of the local unit, or the age of its members, ALL represent women organized for mission, and committed to the purpose of United Methodist Women.

United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is:

  • To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ
  • To develop a creative supportive fellowship and
  • To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Some Announcements 2015

Breakfast at Annual Conference will be at Holiday Inn on Saturday, June 20, with Rev. Don Edwards of Shalom Zone: Grace Ministries as speaker.  Cost will be $15.00

UMW Day at Ferrum College is June 6.   The program will include a Bluegrass Band and Mark Twain Show.  Everyone is encouraged to bring a straw hat.

RESPONSE magazine is trying to find a young United Methodist not necessarily a UMW) who could serve as a basis for a RESPONSE magazine.  Two activitiespossibilities are:(1) A woman/women who are involved, in an organized manner, in recruiting other young UMW members. Informally talking with a person in church would not be helpful. A speaking engagement, published recruitment material, etc, would be helpful. (2) The other activity is social action/justice activities. Prime examples are programs which deal with labor/immigration or poverty issues — but virtually any could work. Ideally, this would be a UMW which has taken on a program as its project. The next level is a program in which young UMW member/members participate. This program could be ecumenical or secular.  If anyone knows of a young woman who would be interested please let Joyce Winston know at buckrow(at)aol.com.
