Assembly 2014

Announcing Assembly 2014: Make it Happen!

April 25-27, 2014, in Louisville, Ky

We are excited to announce Assembly 2014: Make it Happen! Assembly is a time for study, worship and fellowship as United Methodist Women members and partners come together from all over the United States and the world.

Event details

April 25-27, 2014

Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky International Convention Center

  • There is an optional, pre-event Ubuntu Day of Service Thursday April 24.
  • Assembly officially begins the morning of April 25 and ends with closing worship at noon Sunday April 27.

Theme & Vision

The theme of the 2014 Assembly is:

Turning Faith, Hope and Love into Action

The 2014 Assembly will focus on:

  • Giving Voice to the Individual
    • Assembly will honor and equip the individual woman to lead, excel and find her own voice.
  • Connecting for Action
    • Assembly will help women connect with one another and with partners in mission to further the PURPOSE.
  • Practicing Radical Welcome
    • Assembly will help women expand their vision and their capacity to welcome new and unnoticed women to participate, join and shape our work.
  • Supporting United Methodist Women Strategically
    • Assembly will inspire women to support this vital mission movement through engagement and giving.

This vision statement offers building blocks that build from the individual to connecting with our partners and one another to welcoming women from different ages, races, languages and cultures. It also challenges us to consider how we support the work of United Methodist Women now and into the future.

The biblical foundation for Assembly 2014 is the feeding of the 5,000 found in Mark 6:30-44.

The 2014 Assembly Offering will go toward maternal health and environmental justice. United Methodist Women sees these important issues as inextricably linked and critical for the thriving of women, children and youth. These offerings will further our vision of a world in which mothers and their children can be nourished by clean water, air and soil, in which food is free of dangerous chemicals and our health care systems provide equal care for all of God’s people. Find more ways to get involved financially.

Assembly 2014: Making Sustainable Meetings Happen!

John Wesley once said three rules were imperative to Christian life: Do no harm. Do good. And attend to the ordinances of God.

We are committed creating systems and practices at Assembly 2014 that are good for the earth and its peoples. Program resources, souvenirs, exhibits, paper usage and more will look different because of this commitment. Please share this with your conference and be proud that United Methodist Women cares enough to challenge itself to change.

Attendee Recommendations

People attending from your conference should represent all levels of the organization and should reflect the inclusiveness of United Methodist Women (racial/ethnic, persons employed and not employed, youth/young adults, etc.). It is recommended that conferences include at least two teen women (ages 13-17) and at least two college/university women (ages 18-25) as part of the attendance. Along with encouraging their attendance, it is recommended that the conference give financial assistance to young women ages 13-25 to enable them to attend Assembly.

Please review the United Methodist Women’s Policy on Adult Chaperones With Teen Women when including teen women in the Assembly experience. If needed, a copy of the policy may be obtained by contacting Human Resources, United Methodist Women, Room 1501, 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10115, or by telephone at (212) 870-3725.

Scholarship information for first timers

In order to help someone be able to attend Assembly, our SEJ Leadership Team is offering a $400 scholarship to each of the conferences in the Southeastern Jurisdiction. As you can see on the form, we require that you submit a UMW member who has never attended an Assembly, is not a district or conference officer and we prefer a young person.

Your conference will be responsible for returning no more than three forms to be considered for this scholarship. If your conference decides to submit only one form, then that will be fine also. The absolute deadline is October 14.
